A Much-Needed Change to Simplify AI Access

Finally, we no longer have to ask GPT which model to use for our prompts! The model picker had become unnecessarily complicated, confusing many users who just wanted AI to “work” seamlessly.

This move was necessary—not just for better user experience but also to stay competitive. With DeepSeek and other emerging players pushing boundaries, OpenAI had to act fast. Offering GPT-5 at a standard intelligence level for free users is a smart strategy to retain its user base before losing them to competitors.

Consolidating models and removing the friction of choice makes AI more accessible and intuitive. Let’s see how well this unified approach performs in real-world applications!
